Many people do not apply shampoo and conditioner correctly.
SAY WHAT?
Yes!
There is a correct way to apply shampoo and conditioner. Figuring out how to properly wash your hair with the right products is crucial to the overall health of your scalp & hair.
Many of us have followed some sort of hair routine over the years and more often than not, it’s an activity that happens half asleep in the shower or as we are rushing to get ready. Water temperature is also something to keep in mind. Hot water opens up the hair cuticle, allowing moisture to enter the hair. Hair that is consistently rinsed in hot water, strips your hair of it’s natural oils and moisture.
Also as we move away from the hot water, which can be difficult this time year, wash your hair in lukewarm water. When applying conditioner, focus on the ends, not the scalp, and rinse with cold water to seal the pores. This way, the hair gets both benefits from the water temperature. Using cold water seals the pores of our hair, preventing dirt & oils from entering the scalp, holding in the moisture.
The scalp is happy, healthy and hydrated.
Shampoo:
You only need about quarter size, you use it on just the scalp. You should get a good scrub, however, some shampoos do not lather, and ultimately that is okay. Just because they do not lather does not mean they do not work.
Conditioner:
You only need dime or nickel size and you should be applying to the midshaft and to the ends. Conditioner should never be placed onto the scalp. The scalp produces natural and higher concentrated oils at the roots. Conditioner oils on the scalp will increase your oil production at the scalp, clogging the follicles, which ultimately slows your hair’s overall growth.
Making sure you rinse both shampoo and conditioner out thoroughly will be crucial in preventing those oils from building up. It seems silly, but this step is often overlooked.
Remember:
Shampoo is for the scalp.
Conditioner is for the ends.
